2017 Drew Esquivel Memorial Duals (formerly the Healdsburg Duals) Sat. Dec 16th

“Drew Esquivel wrestled for the Healdsburg Wrestling Club, Healdsburg JH and Healdsburg HS, graduating in 2013. He was a 4 year letterman, league champion and NCS place winner while at HHS. He was an integral part of our program and contributed in many intangible ways far beyond winning matches and scoring points for the team. Not only a great athlete, he was a scholar as well and graduated as the Valedictorian for the HHS Class of 2013. He was also involved in drama, school clubs and councils
He was going into his senior year at MIT University, one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the country, majoring in Computer Science. As a member of the MIT wresting team, Drew was Rookie of the Year, Team Captain and Team MVP, just missing the medal round at the NCWA National Championships his junior year. He was working extremely hard this past off season to succeed in his dream of gaining All-American status in his upcoming senior season. No doubt he would have achieved that great honor
Aside from his remarkable athletic talent and academic aptitude, he had a remarkable personality and love of life. He was always volunteering time to community service efforts, was actively involved in his church and so many other activities meant to improve people’s lives and our community in one way or another. He had so much potential for greatness, so much life left to live and so much good left to do in this world. It’s a shame that a life so full of promise was taken so young
He was loved by everyone and will be forever missed. We will change the name of our tournament to forever honor his memory”

Format: 16 team dual tourney. (4) - 4 team pools wrestling round robin on 4 mats until complete. Each group will be assigned to a specific mat and will wrestle each team in the pool until all matches are completed. Teams will be separated as best as possible based on dual strength, league/geographic area and section to keep them apart but the goal is to create 4 evenly balanced groups.
Teams will then move to a 4 team bracket based on finish in pool matches. Pool winners will wrestle for places 1-4, runner ups will wrestle for places 5-8, etc. These bracket matches will also be designated to a mat.
Each team will get 5 duals. Being a dual tourney you are welcome to bring as many kids as you like and juggle lineups as you see fit but space will be a bit limited so please consider this when bringing extras. Our gyms are on the small size and seating will be somewhat limited. It’s a great format for everyone and we have gotten good feedback from coaches who seem to enjoy the competition.
