ADRIAN COLLEGE WOMEN'S WRESTLING IS LOOKING TO GROW!
Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan is looking for young women that have high academic dreams and want to continue their wrestling careers into college. All you need to have is a desire to wrestle and to continue to grow in the sport. We are just wrapping up our first season of competition and are pleased to announce that we had our first ever All-American in that first season. Our numbers were limited this first year and we are looking to grow for the future. The nice thing about debut programs is that there is no entrenched set of returning seniors that have all the starting spots. Any wrestler has a chance to earn a starting spot right away. Would you like to be one of them?
Adrian College is located in south central Michigan a little over an hour from Windsor, Ontario, Canada and about half an hour from Ohio & Indiana. We are about a 3 1/2 hour drive from Chicago. Given our location we have the option to compete with the other women's wrestling teams in the US but also with Canadian and other international teams that come to their tournaments.
The city of Adrian is a mid-size town with about 22,000 people with all the shopping and amenities you would expect. It is thirty minutes from several other larger towns and less than an hour to metro-Detroit. It is close enough to enjoy all of the major cultural centers, shopping, entertainment and sporting venues with ease.
Our head coach, Chris Williams, is a former NCAA DI All-American for Michigan State University and a former Assistant Coach there for many years. Our head assistant coach is Anthony Jones, another All-American from MSU who is still competing on the Senior circuit in hopes of competing for Team USA. This is my 14th year of coaching female wrestlers. Two of my daughters are USA Wrestling All-Americans. CC Weber is another assistant coach. She has trained at the US Olympic Training Center and is also still competing in hopes of making it on to Team USA. Our coaching staff is top notch and not many schools can boast of this many coaches for the women's program.
This is our first year as a women's team so we have low numbers but high skill. It is a good room to challenge any wrestler and help you improve. With the other ladies on the team we look to be able to compete for the National Championships.
Adrian College Wrestling is a fully funded program by the school so we do not do endless fundraisers to pay our way. It is nice that we do not have to do that and can focus on our classes and our training. Any small fundraising we may do is to get extra equipment and gear for the team, not to pay for travel expenses and tournament fees. This season we have only done one and that was to sell shirts to friends and relatives. They wanted them anyway so it was as easy as any fundraiser could be.
Our brand new wrestling room is large, sunny and cheerful. It is not the usual dark dingy dungeon with which we are all familiar. The brand new weight room is right next door and equally nice. Bright sunny practices in February are quite a change. I have attached a photo so you can see for yourself.
Adrian College is a top notch school. We are an NCAA DIII school but the campus is on par with a small DI school. Campus life is vibrant and the sense of community and family is high. US News & World Report just ranked us the 19th Best Regional College in the Midwest and the 14th Best Value School in the Midwest. We offer dozens of undergraduate degrees as well as several Masters programs to give greater opportunity to our students.
