Title: Coaches corner
Post by: livestrong on December 08, 2017, 07:39:47 am
Hello all,
Most recently we hired a new athletic director who has been very difficult to work with. His knowledge of the sport lacks desiring.
My question is;  I need to produce specifically in the rule book where it states that a coach must be present in order for the athlete to compete. Any help would be appericate.

Rules 1.2.4, 1.3.5,  3.4.f, 3.5.d

"Prior to the meet the head coach shall verify that all wrestlers will be in proper uniform, properly groomed, properly equipped and ready to wrestle."

I don't believe that it specifically says that the coach must be present but it does say that the coach must verify that all wrestlers are ready to wrestle.  Therefore, the coach must be present.

While the rule book does not specifically mention that a coach has to be present to wrestle, any CIF sanctioned event must have a school administrator available in case there is a major problem.  In large tournaments you will often find that another member of the wrestling team will be in a corner acting as coach.  An official should give wrestlers the opportunity, within reason, to get someone in their corner.
