It's the only way to prevent coaches from "throwing" matches for 3rd & 4th. It happened quite a few times before the Y2 and Y3 were flopped. Now, no one intentionally loses in the semis to try and get 3rd. In other words, if you switch Y2 and Y3, then Y4 seems to many better than Y3, especially when there is a very good Sierra/Sequoia wrestler at SS1.
It's not a perfect solution, but we've gone from 8 qualifiers (when the bracket was first used) to 10, so something is going right. But I think this will be the final year of this bracket anyway as the qualifying process is set to change next season.
