California Wrestling - General Discussion / Re: CIF-SS Divisions 2020-2021

Hoover is in the Rio Hondo league (Inland Division), CIF has omitted them for years. I also believe Marshall is a new program in the Mission Valley league (Northern division)

Can anyone explain how they restructure the dual divisions?

Blue Book has Hoover included in the Pacific League which is not on the Divisions list.  Thanks for pointing this out.  I've seen Hoover at the Southern Division CIF for the last couple of years.  I now have them included in Rio Hondo League in the Inland Division.

I've gone through the Blue Book (shout out to Jorge for pointing it out to me) to get the new league realignments.  It flips a couple of state qualifiers to different divisions with the realignment of the Valle Vista and Hacienda leagues.  And I now have Marshall included in the Mission Valley league.

I'm not 100% sure about how the conferences (i.e. Raincross & Arrowhead) will split.  They will determine new splits by sport yearly.  Each of these conferences have 3 leagues, but only 2 of those leagues included in the Divisions list.  Someone like panther03 would have better information about Raincross.

Raincross will once again be broken into 3 leagues for duals (Ivy, Sunbelt, Inland) and two leagues for individuals
I don’t have the exact teams for individuals but
Ivy individuals will include Paloma Valley, Temescal Canyon, Hemet, Canyon Springs, Lakeside,Poly, Rancho Verde and 2more schools from the conference, Sunbelt will include 6 schools of which Norte Dame, Heriatge, Moreno Valley and Vista Del Lago is a part of.
The rest of the schools in the conference are
Orange Vista, , North, Valley View, , Elsinore,

What makes a great team?

The longevity of Temecula Valley and Northview have to make them the top two I would think.

El Dorado had a good run in the early 80's at the state meet

1982 champs
1983 3rd
1986  2nd

The 2nd place 1986 team scored more points with three wrestlers ( all made finals ) than the 1982 state championship team with 5 wrestlers that all made it to semis. On a side note , the 1982 state championship team finished 2nd in league :)
Wow, that’s crazy, second in league, state champs!!

Crazy as it sounds, it's harder for a super top heavy team to win league than finish high at Masters/State. You can ride a handful of beasts to a high finish at Masters/State, but if there's another team in the league that fills out the other 9-10 weight classes better, they can win the league.
Yeah, it’s true, but how often does that happen?
Maybe more back then?

Those guidelines thru phases 1-3 do not yet allow for any of the high risk sports to return to competition and basically states that additional data from other states will be reviewed before moving on to the yet to be defined phase 4. I think that is why we are looking at football backing up (perhaps to January ) and stunt and wrestling moving into the spring. I believe Florida High schools are essentially starting the phase 1 now for football, which most of us will be starting in the next few weeks and it wouldn't surprise me if we eventually followed their lead.

See ya,

Scott

PS....stick figures do not count as art sir panther :)
Sir Panther sounds so admirable.

I am not a gambling man, but my money would be on a condensed season with regional tournaments and no state meet. High risk sports besides football and wrestling  include lacrosse and stunt cheer. I don't see how they can have those and not have wrestling, and they will find a way to have  cheer and football.

On another note, anybody know an art teacher looking for a job  :)

Scott
I don’t have a credential, but can draw stick figures, can you make me into an art teacher?

I have been telling people be ready for CIF to be the last event of the year, I think all state tournies will be on the chopping block this year. If one goes, they all go.

235’s: #6 had the last head to head win over #4. WBF. That’s one of those where there was controversy in the seeding. In their common opponents at state, neither won against someone the other lost too. Both lost to same person (McCoy-3rd place).
Unfortunately, a state placer would be seeded and should be ranked higher than non placer .
Also , #4’s losses were only to state placers at state, while #6 losses are to one state placer and one non state placer in the first round. This is all of course like Marchese stated way early and with no matches wrestled. They should hopefully wrestle in the CS again, and hopefully state will seed the higher section and placer higher next time around, that part I don’t understand.

Cal,
Raincross leagues are set, and given to CIF
So snake might be coming soon
Don’t have teams, but Raincross indy leagues will be a 9 team Ivy League, and a 6 team Sunbelt league

Well answered Panther.
Thank You for the intel.

It isn't that often we get some one on here who can answer a question completely.

Just a thought...Every Monday at 9:00am our science department meets from  home on Google Hangout. There are 17 of us as well as the principal.  Perhaps those Athletic Directors and Mr. Wigod can do the same? It seems to me that the CIF office often makes unilateral decisions that are binding.

I don’t think meeting is the problem anymore, it’s coming to agreement.
I think CIF has been easy to get ahold of. The issue came in an approval to how the league was allowed to do things, but that commish passed away, and now they don’t allow it. So the league has had to come up with a new way to do it, and there has been some disagreement.

RainCross conference?
Where is that?

I suppose everyone is too busy to have a athletic directors meeting for 34 mutes with the schools being closed and no athletic events being held.

I totally understand!

Love,
Cal
Riverside County

Paloma Valley
Temescal Canyon
Elsinore
Canyon Springs
Heritage
Rancho Verde
Hemet
Moreno Valley
Vista Del Lago
Norte Dame
Valley View
Lakeside
Poly
Orange Vista
JW North

They have met, i know the Covid things slowed some meetings down, as the meeting meant for this got shifted to what was gonna happen to spring.
Now they are stuck.
There is discussion on what is best, and it’s going back and forth. Teams have left, teams have entered. The size changed, which changes how you wanna break them up.
Also, the way CIF accepted to break up the leagues in last rotation, is no longer being accepted, so intial draft got rejected.
When you are talking about 15 schools it’s not as easy as 8 or 9 schools, since CIF doesn’t have a qualifier number for 15, if not it would be easy like the other conferences.

Updates anyone?
The Mayor figured it would be revealed later that week, but that was three weeks ago.

Inquiring minds want to know!!!

Cal,
RainCross Conference hasn’t set their leagues up, so snake cannot be made yet.

Well if “ how freaking long” is a nice way to ask a question, then my answer is a nice answer to the process.
I respond with the same attitude people ask questions with.
Just like my initial response was to Cal asking about Snake, I answered nice, he asked an honest question, and I gave an honest answer.
I agree, a snake would be a great conversation piece. Unfortunately, our conference is not set up yet, so if any snake comes out, it would not be official as our conference will be 2-3 new leagues

Wow. Had no idea youd react so personally. . but, yea. Too bad for you then i guess. It certainly wasnt meant with any offense but if ya want to read a tone into it and get all offended like a millenial at the "im offended" olympics then have at it.. Yes. How long can it take to freaking drop 2 and add 3...?

You already know who is entering and leaving. Your individual school dual meet schedules dont need to be known to figure out which teams are going where in the CIF snake. Admin and ADs are still at work the same as teachers, so thats a bit of an excuse there...

Why do i want to know? Curiosity. Just something to do wrestling related. Nope. Not gonna scout a thing... Why? Scouting isn't my thing until it actually matters and it doesn't matter in April.
Ok know it all.
Sounds good twitter fingers.
I’m done, I didn’t say anything offensive to you online, and I don’t do that crap, so these statements are about as much as you get out of me. You can continue, to be an online troll.
Feel free to talk to me in person whenever you want, I do dont this millennial twitter back and forth.
