Title: Capo Valley Lady Big Kat Varsity & JV Tournaments. Sat. Nov 21, 2020
Post by: BShack on April 13, 2020, 04:25:45 pm
The Capo Valley Lady Big Kat once again in 2019-20 sold out (for the 4th year in a row) and that was after doubling the size by adding a JV division.  We had 486 preregistered athletes, ended up with 434 actual in the 2 tournaments; we wrestled over 800 matches on 8 mats, had to actually slow down due to the 45 minute rule and we finished at 5pm (btw, we started on time at 9am). Did I mention, this was a one day tournament and we were done at 5pm?!?

This event featured teams from all over California, north to south, east to west. We had well over 200 CIF qualifiers, over 100 SS Masters Qualifiers, 40 state qualifiers and 9 state placers. This is an early season opportunity to bring your studs and find out where they stand and what they need to work on.  Nearly 100% of varsity bracket participants qualified for SS CIF regionals, nearly 50% qualified for SS CIF Masters, almost 20% qualified for State!

The JV event offers an opportunity for all your newbie and weaker wrestlers to get the appropriate level of competition as well. ALL under one roof, no worries about multiple busses, splitting coaching staffs or trying to figure out what group gets to wrestle on a given weekend. Bring them ALL! And did I mention it is one day and you get out at a reasonable time, 5pm???

The Event will be the opening weekend of the season again in 2020-21 and will be held on Saturday November 21st (This is the weekend before Thanksgiving so no worries there).  On-line wrestler registration (all on the same google doc, so no need to input your school and email a million times), Weigh-ins from 6:30 to 8am, wrestling starts at 9 and we WILL finish early as always! I have attached the flyer, contract and an indication of interest (IOI); if you complete the IOI and return it we will hold a spot for your team until September 1st (first 30 teams, after that contract and/or check required to hold your spot).

Looking forward to seeing you all in the new year. Enjoy the off season and your summer.  See you soon.

Hoping you (& your family) and all of your kids are Healthy and Safe.

Thanks, Coach Shack

Please get your intent to participate in to us ASAP-- you do not need an AD to sign off on it. That will hold your spot and we will deal with the rest in the fall when things are back to "normal..."

We will be doing all that is reasonable and practical at our events to protect the safety of the athletes, coaches and spectators at our events. We are implementing a series of best practices, they will be, as follows:

1) We will ask coaches to indicate, on our on-line registration form, "to the best of my knowledge, none of my wrestlers have a fever, dry cough or flu like symptoms". This is really an opportunity to show all involved that we are taking the "risk" seriously. We are NOT asking you to guarantee, certify, or any other liability language here; we are just asking, if you know a kid is sick to leave them home.

2) We have purchased several hand held, touchless, thermometers. We will be taking athletes temperature during grooming check. If a wrestler has a fever, we will not allow them to participate that day. We understand that temperatures are in a range and not just 98.6, so the cut off will be anything >99.8.

3) We will briefly stop after the 2nd and 4th round of wrestling to Re-disinfect all the mats. We use Ken Shield Plus Surface Disinfectant which has been shown to kill SARS/Corona Virus' along with Staph, ring worm and other potential issues.  We already have to slow down at times, due to the speed with which the tournament runs coupled with the 45-minute rule, so we are going to use it to ensure athlete safety.

4) We will have alcohol-based hand sanitizers at each mat and ALL wrestlers will be required to use it prior to their match (please see the attached URL on a recent study conducted at College Wrestling events showing the efficacy of this practice).

5) We will have a towel in two corners of each mat, wet with disinfectant, to facilitate shoe cleaning.

6) We will have two staging areas (separated by division, Varsity/JV) to reduce crowding in the staging area and to assist with some social distancing.

7) We will have a designated area outside the gym where teams can set up pop ups for the wrestlers to camp/hang out to reduce crowding in the gym and we will be making simultaneous announcements in both gyms and in the outside area when weights are called to ensure that wrestlers are not missing or having to worry if their weight has been called.

8) We will ask spectators to wear a face mask or face covering while in the gym and occupancy will be closely monitored.

Coaches, Thanks for all you do for the sport!

If you have any questions or concerns regarding these procedures please do not hesitate to send an email.

Got our hand held digital thermometers in, tested them at school during cap and gown distribution. They work really well and take no time to read temperatures.
